It’s a cosy atmosphere in Claire Valley with it’s small family owned firms and their small vine shops. The valley strtches from Auburn in the South and Jamestown in the North but it mainly concentrates on the area around the small town Clare with it’s about 3000 inhabitants.
In the middle between Clare and Auburn is situated the small town Mintaro with a comfortable little pub and a few recommendable restaurants.
The visitors information centre is situated in Clare. Because is only unregularly worked in March and April you should better call the wine producers directly to get information about the wished winery.
Clare itself has some very interesting buildings, one of the buildings is the impressng Catholic Church. The first Police Station and the Court were built in 1850. Today you can find there the Old Police Station Museum.
On the Riesling Trail you come across the finest wineries that you may find in this area. The way leads from the valley of Auburn to Clare. The wonderful Artists Gallery is also worth visiting because you will met it during your walk.
The wineries in Claire Valley produce some of the best Rieslings but also the Semillon and the Shiraz. In Clare Valley you can find about 30 wineries.
Every year in May the famous “Gourmet Weekend” , one of the main attractions, takes place. It’s a festival where the guests is offered wine, good meals and music. The wineries of that valley are the hosts of this event.
You can stay overnight in one of the Bed & Breakfast Hotels, you can go to a regular hotel or rent a little cottage.
If you want to explore the area with a bike can rent one in Clare Valley. Of course there are also taxis which you can use. Here you will find accommodation in South Australia
