Nasinu can be explored through a range of very different themes: sports on campus and in Valelevu, market offerings in Laqere, and a protected historic site. This offers a variety of focuses for planning your trip, from indoor sports to an interest in locally traded goods and cultural heritage.

Sports on Campus and in Valelevu

The FNU Sports and Wellness Centre is located on the Nasinu Campus. In a statement dated April 28, 2022, Fiji National University said it was open for use by alumni and community members as well as students and employees. The description at the time refers to an indoor sports and fitness hall; teams could rent the indoor multipurpose courts for basketball, badminton, futsal, netball and volleyball. Lecture rooms were also available for conferences and events. The description therefore presents sports facilities and event spaces side by side, a distinction relevant when planning team sports or a gathering. If you are planning to use the hall or facilities for a team, check current booking and rental arrangements in advance.

Another sports venue is the Nasinu Multipurpose Courts in Valelevu. A report on the opening dated August 14, 2015, lists three volleyball courts, a netball court and a futsal field there; it also notes that the courts were opened to the public at the time. In October 2024, the one-day Siga Kei Viti Volleyball Tournament, with 40 teams, was held at the Valelevu Multipurpose Court. The difference lies in the type of use: the FNU Centre is associated with rentable indoor multipurpose courts, while Valelevu has dedicated courts and a futsal field. If using the courts is an important part of your stay, check current access conditions in advance.

Festival Between 2024 and 2025

The chair described attendance at the 2024 Nasinu Festival as record-breaking. The 2024 festival was sponsored by Vodafone and Gavya. A 2025 edition was announced for the Valelevu Grounds: plans called for a Fiji Day celebration on October 10 and events leading up to Diwali.

Markets and Local Goods

A report from May 2025 describes vendors at Laqere Market in Nasinu selling a range of produce, kava and handicrafts. On February 11, 2026, a report announced the opening of a Fresh’et Super Butcher outlet at the new Nasinu Market in Laqere; it offered fresh meat and fresh fish. Handicrafts provide an additional point of interest for those interested in culture.

Cultural Heritage with Restricted Access

The Laucala Beach Estate Ring Ditch Fortification in Nasinu is a protected twin ring-ditch fortification and is classified as a Historical Reserve. An important access restriction to bear in mind when planning a visit is that the site is not open to recreational visitors. If you are considering a visit for research purposes, clarify access arrangements in advance.
