Fare brings together a market, crafts, and island flavors against a distinctive landscape. At the quay, market stalls meet views of Mount Tavaiura; the craft center reveals another side of the town, while the Huahine-Passion distillery offers tastings for adults. This gives you different ways to think about Fare, depending on your travel interests—from local produce and crafts to diving. Fare is also the main starting point for most of Huahine’s dive centers.

Market and views at the quay

Market stalls are set up at the quay every morning. Most of Huahine’s produce is sold there, and freshly caught fish is also available for sale. The morning is therefore a specific time to keep in mind when planning your visit around the market. From the quay, you can also see Mount Tavaiura. Its silhouette resembles a pregnant woman lying down, giving the landscape an unusual and striking shape. The market and the mountain’s silhouette add two different touches to the same place: the goods on offer at the quay and a distinctive feature of the landscape.

Crafts opposite the town hall

The craft center in Fare is opposite the town hall and has an octagonal design inspired by traditional houses. This makes the architectural influence visible and gives the center a distinctive shape. Huahine artisans work there. Items for sale include pearls, mother-of-pearl jewelry, pearl necklaces, tifaifai, vanilla, and monoi. A local craftsperson is also available to advise visitors about traditional crafts. The building’s design, the work of local artisans, and a selection of goods all come together in one place. If you are planning to visit for advice or a specific item, check the latest opening details and selection beforehand.

Tastings with an age restriction

The Huahine-Passion distillery is also located in Fare. It offers adults a visit with tastings of liqueurs and spirits made from fruit grown on the island. The current tasting offer is tied to a purchase. Visits are restricted to adults—an important limitation to keep in mind if you are traveling with children and planning activities together. Check the latest opening details before visiting.

Diving and when to visit

Fare is the main starting point for most of Huahine’s dive centers. In November, Fare is also the starting point for the Hawaiki Nui Va’a outrigger canoe race. The market and the race take place at different times: the stalls are set up in the morning, while the race is held in November. This contrast can help with your travel planning as you consider whether the market or the race date better suits your plans.
