Wandiligong lies on the banks of Morses Creek and is a heritage-listed village. Its gold mining history is reflected in its preserved buildings and the creek’s former use; at the same time, walking trails, gorges and an orchard shape the visitor experience. When planning your trip, you can choose from different points of interest: local history, outings by the water, a challenging mountain run and a break featuring orchard produce.

Gold Mining History in the Village and Landscape

Schools, churches, shops, a public library and hotels bear witness to Wandiligong’s gold rush days; many of these buildings are still standing. Morses Creek is also part of this history: it was once used for gold mining. You can trace the area’s past both through its preserved buildings and in the landscape along the creek.

Walking Trails Along the Creek and Through Former Goldfields

The Diggings Walk passes through Wandiligong’s former goldfields. The Wandi Walk offers a different focus: it follows Morses Creek from Bright to Alpine Park in Wandiligong, with views of gold mining remnants, rocky gorges, rapids and quiet, secluded swimming spots. The Diggings Walk focuses on the former goldfields along its route; the Wandi Walk combines traces of gold mining with the river landscape and other natural features. This gives you a choice between two different ways to explore local history.

Cycle from Bright to Alpine Park

A cycling route from Bright to Wandiligong adds another option to the walking trails. It is 5.5 kilometres long, runs one way along a sealed, mostly flat path with gentle slopes, and ends at Alpine Park. The Wandi Walk also runs from Bright to this park. Both outings therefore share the same destination, but differ in how you travel and the route experiences described. The cycling route gives you specific information about its length, surface and course; the Wandi Walk focuses on Morses Creek and the landscape along the route.

Mountain Run in the Wandiligong Valley

Wandi Cross offers a different focus from the trails by the water and through the goldfields. This mountain running challenge takes place in the Wandiligong Valley, where participants climb the highest points of Mystic Mountain and Goldmine Ridge. The mountain run and these two named peaks offer another facet of the area. If you’re interested in different kinds of outings, this sporting experience sits alongside the history- and landscape-focused trails.

Orchard, Farm Shop and Play Areas

The Nightingale Bros farm shop is located in an orchard in Wandiligong. It offers home-grown apples, their own apple juice and Alpine Cider to taste and buy. Nightingale Bros Alpine Produce also serves coffee and muffins on the lawn, and has games and a playground. Orchard produce, an outdoor break and other on-site offerings come together here.

Alpine Park is on the banks of Morses Creek and has a playground; children can paddle in the creek. If you’re travelling with children, this is another specific place to visit, alongside the games and playground at Nightingale Bros. The park focuses on the water and play area, while the farm shop adds an orchard and its produce.
