Discover Mount Eliza
Accommodation in Mount Eliza
Mount Eliza combines an extensive coastline along Port Phillip Bay with special habitats, sailing and a monthly farmers’ market. This gives your stay several possible focuses: you can explore the beaches and foreshore, take an interest in coastal vegetation, or plan a visit around the market and yacht club.
Coast, Beaches and Habitats
The Mount Eliza Foreshore stretches for more than six kilometres along Port Phillip Bay and includes six peaceful beaches—from Daveys Bay in the north to Sunnyside Beach in the south. The coast is shaped by more than just sand: the foreshore has native coastal vegetation, including Coastal Headland Scrub and Coast Banksia Woodland, as well as freshwater wetlands. These habitats support diverse wildlife and give this stretch of coastline its own natural variety beyond the beaches.
Ranelagh Beach features a distinctive combination of sand, headlands and colourful bathing boxes. Access is via the southern section of Earimil Drive and a path with steep steps leading down to the beach. Take these steps into account when planning your day if you want to visit Ranelagh Beach.
Sailing and Sunday Races
During the sailing season, the Davey’s Bay Yacht Club runs sailing programs on Friday evenings and Sundays for children, young people and adults of all experience levels—from beginners to experienced and competitive sailors. Beach and keelboat races are also held there on Sunday afternoons. The club therefore offers different ways to experience sailing: programs for varying experience levels and races in two boat categories. If you’re planning a visit around sailing, bear in mind that the sailing programs are seasonal.
Market and Seasonal Produce
The Mount Eliza Farmers’ Market takes place on the fourth Sunday of every month from 9 am to 1 pm, rain or shine, and offers seasonal produce. Its regular monthly schedule sets it apart from a beach visit or the seasonal sailing programs. If the market is part of your plans, keep this Sunday date and time window in mind.
Walks and Time in the Park
Mount Eliza Regional Park offers picnic areas and a playground and is ideal for scenic walks. There is also a designated off-leash area for dogs. The park therefore offers several different ways to spend time outdoors: take a walk, stop at a picnic area or visit the playground. Dogs may run off leash in the designated area.
Planning Your Stay in Mount Eliza
If the coast and beaches are your main focus, you may be particularly interested in the foreshore and Ranelagh Beach; plans involving sailing, the market or the park each have different focuses and time frames. Consider which of these sides of Mount Eliza matters most for your trip, then search specifically for hotels in town.
