A preserved dairy factory, an art gallery at two railway stations and trails on the edge of town give Trafalgar its varied character. A monthly market, an outdoor pool and seasonal berry picking are also among the experiences to consider when planning your visit.

History, vehicles and local art

The Trafalgar Holden Museum is housed in a preserved dairy factory in Trafalgar. Its interactive exhibits allow children to explore how a Holden vehicle works. The combination of a preserved factory building and a vehicle theme makes the museum a distinctive cultural feature and gives families a tangible starting point if children want to learn about technology through interactive exhibits.

The Station Gallery is located at Trafalgar and Yarragon railway stations. It provides studio, exhibition and event spaces for local artists in the Baw Baw area; it opened in Trafalgar in October 2015. Two workshop areas are intended for Bbaa or the community. Art Space 2 is specifically set up for workshops involving messier work. Unlike the museum’s focus on vehicles, the gallery centres on local art and practical work in workshops.

Nature, exercise and water

Uralla Nature Reserve lies on the edge of Trafalgar. You can explore around 3.5 km of trails there, and there is also an accessible walking track. Trail conditions can change, and accessibility may depend on maintenance. So check the condition of the trails before setting out for a walk.

Trafalgar Outdoor Pool has a 33-metre main pool and a shaded toddler pool with water play features. Seasonal operating details can change; check the latest information before planning a swim.

Trafalgar Golf Course is nearby, seven kilometres north of the town. Visitors are welcome, and a round can be booked. As booking conditions may change, check them before including the golf course in your plans.

Market and seasonal experiences

Trafalgar Farmers Market is held on the first Saturday of each month, from 9:00 am to 1:00 pm, at McGregor Park in Trafalgar, Victoria. Check the date and time again before your trip. The market follows the “make it, bake it, sew it, grow it” principle and supports local farmers and craftspeople. The idea brings together things made, baked, sewn and grown locally; what individual stalls offer may change.

Nearby, Sunny Creek Organic in Trafalgar South offers pick-your-own berries in summer and also operates a farm shop. Unlike the monthly market, this experience is tied to the summer season. If you’re planning to go berry picking, confirm availability in advance.

Plan your stay

Market visits and berry picking also depend on finding a suitable date or being there in the right season.
