With more than 25 murals, a gallery with monthly changing exhibitions, a theatre and various cycling routes, Yarram offers a wide range of reasons to stay. You can consider whether street art, an exhibition, an event or outdoor exercise should be the focus of your trip. The specific venues and routes provide a useful guide.

Yarram’s Murals in Detail

Heesco Town is a series of more than 25 murals in Yarram, painted by street artist and silo artist Heesco Khosnaran. The town’s previously bare walls have been transformed by colourful street art. Another specific mural is on the Yarram Water Tower: Heesco Khosnaran painted it in April 2023, and GUNAIKURANI Elder Sandra Patten painted the lower section. The murals in Yarram therefore showcase different artistic contributions, which can also be seen on a single structure.

Art Venues and Cultural Program

Yarram Courthouse Gallery is a community art space in Yarram. It is housed in a heritage-listed former courthouse, the former Yarram Magistrates Court, and holds monthly changing exhibitions. Street art around town and changing displays at the Gallery offer different ways to engage with art. If a particular exhibition interests you, check what is showing during your travel dates before your trip.

Yarram Visitor Information Centre is located in the original courthouse in the town centre. The Regent Theatre in Yarram is a venue for live performances, concerts, film screenings, conferences and events. The cultural offering ranges from changing art exhibitions to various stage, film and event formats. If you are interested, check in advance which dates fall within your travel period.

Cycling Trails and Outdoor Recreation

Two very different route lengths are listed to help you choose a bike ride. The Tarra Trail is a 14 km side route to Port Albert and is considered an excellent cycling route for families. The Great Southern Rail Trail runs for 131 km between Nyora and Yarram. The shorter route leads to Port Albert, while the longer route runs between two towns; you can compare the distances and destinations to decide how far you would like to ride.

The Tarra Trail starts at Yarram Wetlands. The Great Southern Rail Trail ends at Tarra Trail Reserve in Yarram. The reserve has scenic wetlands, a pump track and picnic areas. Yarram Wetland Park also has a basketball court, a fitness park and a skate park. For a family stay with children, you can therefore consider both the route specifically described as a family cycling trail and the various recreational facilities.

Yarram as a Place to Stay

When looking for accommodation in Yarram, it helps to first decide what you want to focus on during your trip: would you mainly like to see the murals, plan an exhibition or event, or make cycling the main activity? If the gallery or theatre is important to you, check the exhibitions or event program for your travel dates.
